Hay Day at a Field Day!

It's the day after!  Yesterday, September 29, 2012 we were invited guests, and vendors to sell our socks and educate the Maple Sugar, and Woodlot population that attended a Field Day in honour of a friend who won Woodlot Owner of the Year!  He and his wife were presented the award after lunch.  Congratulations Pat and Janet!  It is also the day after, of the special re-launching of the BLUENOSE II!

It was a getting Back to Basis kind of day, in the woods, ship building and sock making in Nova Scotia yesterday.  Glad to have been part of two of them!

We also did a bit of walk through the woods, took a wagon ride to the Maple Sugar Shack and of course bought some Maple Syrup to use on our homemade waffles that we have so enjoyed lately.  The day certainly brought me back to my country roots of being a Farmers Daughter!  Once a farmer's daughter, always a Farmer's Daughter even if I have had city lived stints in my life.

It was great to have our own sign and I was excited that we got to keep it also!

Getting set up almost ready to begin....I had to get a few photos first!

The SHACK, not sure if it was an ole Sugar Shack or saw-mill or both, but we were glad to be out of the rain for the day!

Here we go.....these kinds of events are always so exciting!  I love them!

The fresh smell of pine, and the fresh smell of rain kept us company all throughout the day!

Historic Farmers Market debut

We had a wonderful first stint at the Historic Farmers Market today at the old Brewery Square.  Lots of people stopped to take a peak at MrB cranking away and just as many stopped to touch the socks and ask questions. The purchases reached our goal and exceeded with the potential interest and very positive feedback!  So many enquired if were coming back and it was pleasure to say YES we will be back! We had a great introduction and look forward to our next time going even though we have to get up before the birds.  We are a little groggy now but got all the little after market things done before turning off Socks Made On 88 for the day.  Now we have big anticipation of our next venue being next Saturday.  They are all exciting to take part in as you just never know what to expect.

Tuesday's Ego- friendlies

NO... one sock is not longer than the other!!  I have one sock rolled cuff down so that you can see the contrast in the striping, as up and down, inside and outside, striping is different!

Here it is Tuesday! Here is one of MrB's accomplishment from the other day.  This pair is again an ego-friendly pair made from left overs, giving it an One N Only title to shorten to ONO!  This pair, I think is very stunning and of course it is a size Women's 9, and you know why.....so that I don't clasp my paws on them and take them off to my own drawer.  They really need to be sold at the market instead!

Crisp Cool Monday

It is a crisp cool Monday morning!  The updates have been made.  Another week of doing last minute things before we debut at the Historic Farmers Market in Halifax!  It will be a very early morning for us with the alarm been set prior to 5 am as we must leave the house close to 5:30am to be at the market for 6am and set up and ready for 7am opening!  Here's hoping that we do well for our first showing, as we have signed up to the 4th Saturday for the months of September, October, November and December!  Here goes nothing....we are very excited to graduate to a larger market indeed :-)  I think we have all our little things attended to and now we just need to focus on selling the socks.  The socks pretty much sell themselves if they are in a location where there are people who appreciate the art of knitting, and more so the art of sock cranking!  The machine always attracts interested on-lookers no matter what!  MrB does a good job explaining the cranking process.  When there is at least one sock hanging through the cylinder that's when everyone stops for a big gauk!!  I am very excited to see what the outcome will be on Saturday.  My anticipation is that we will not be disappointed.

In Between weekend

The last Saturday at the Harvest Market/show went very well!  I think I did not come here and report that thereafter!  We don't have anything on the go this weekend but a little pleasure getaway.  Next Saturday is our debut at the new Market for us and we are very excited about that upcoming.  Also the end of the month we are very much looking forward to attending a Public Field Day at a farm.
MrB had cranked out a few pairs of new socks this week to replenish the socks we have sold and a new size to keep on stock.  We are gradually getting back into the swing of things for FALL, as there is one more week of summer!  I do not have the sock pairs ready, tagged and photographed yet....guess my butt has been dragging.....I will get them over here shortly though.  Monday would be a good day to check back in.  1 2 3 pairs awaiting for me.  They are kitchenered, washed and dried though so that's a start.  There are two Men's pair and another One of a Kind or One and Only whatever term you care to call them.  The two men's pairs are nice and conservative in colourways, but very impressive too!  The OOAK or OnO are very nice too!  They seem to be a great hit at markets for women.  We will have to test a men's pair too in the very near future!  Great way to be ego-friendly using some of our left over yarns :-).  It is always good to keep on the GREEN  track to do what we can to help our environment.  Have a great weekend everyone.  I will be checking back in on Monday or so and getting ready once again for MARKET!

September is Here!

September is here!  The days go by so fast!  Fall is in the air but we had a terrific summer.  Four days into the month already.  MrB and I are starting to get out of our relax mode slowly but surely.  We do have company for a few days so half being leisure and half been progressing into Sock-mode!  Thursday night company is departing and Friday we will have switched into high gear getting ready and focusing on a show/demo for Saturday in our very own local area.  As always, we are both looking forward to this event to see how our participations pan out.  It is always fun doing a new event and meeting new people and see how they react to our product, our SOCKS!  Throughout the last few days MrB has increased our inventory with some Baby Hats and a few weeks back also cranked out some more soap sacks.  He added another pair of socks to our inventory too yesterday, and today is working on a special  order for a friend of his son.  This pair will go off to Newfoundland to a gal who is an archeaologist.  We are very excited to see if they meet her wants and her needs.  She will have special delivery so need for shipping, that is a bonus for her indeed!  The pair of socks that MrB did last night are out on the clothesline drying.  When they are dry I will post a picture of them.  They are a men's pair in soft blues and grey almost appearing a very light mauve in some lights also.  The yarn is from Lanna Grossa ( sp ?)  and appears to be a top second for us to use, and Brigadier 88 likes it very much also!  Like MrB says, it slides through the machine, our Erl, like butter! It is a close contender to the Opal Yarn that we really like a lot!  Well thats our first few days of September update.  Thank you so much to all of you for following us along our journey!  I try to get here at least once a week to carry-on the Socks Made On 88 story, documenting it little by little in my blog enteries.  Solong for now, catch you again later,
