Sunday 17 December 2017

We will be at the market Saturday, December 23, 2017 7am to 1pm

I am loving this new purchase!

For 5 years I have been using a plastic snack bag for my market money clipped into my apron!  A couple of weeks ago, the plastic bag finally gave out.  I thought geesh that was a good run, and then thought why don't have something better to use, really, it would be more appropriate and last lasting.  This week, there was a vendor at the market.  I looked at these little felt bags.  I tried one in my apron to see if it would fit.  It did!  I tried the money bills and they also fit, they fit perfect!  I went back to our own vendor table and thought about it, and then went to purchase one!  I chose green because green is in our colour theme.  I chose trees, as Money does not grow on Trees! haha!  I used the little money bag for an hour or more, and I could not believe how much I liked it!  It worked awesome!  Now earlier in the week, MrB was saying how I don't like change.  And I don't!  But once I make a decision to make a change I am usually happy of the outcome! I just have to bring my head around to making the change.  Well change was a very good one, and I love my new little money bag. I am glad that Fibres of Life were at the market yesterday!

COZY, COMFORTABLE and INVITING...

That's this picture! (Photo Credit to Stephan Harris)

Not only is this picture, Cozy, Comfortable and Inviting looking, so is the old Brewery Market we vendor at regularly.  It is a old building with a space that is unique!  And above all, cozy, comfortable and inviting also speaks of our sock pairs too :-)

We will be at the market again this Saturday, November 25, 2018, 7am to 1pm.  We will be ready and waiting to sell you the socks you need for that special gift.

From Antique Sewing Table to New CSM table

Brigadier on new table!

There she be!

 Love her legs!

Lots more space!  All set up ready to go....where are you, MrB?

We were given an old antique sewing machine table/cabinet and MrB had visions of using it for a new CSM Table in his Cranking Cave (Studio).  He had a table top made of Oak to the measurements he wanted.  MrB wanted this table to remain in Cranking Cave and to have less wear and tear on the Erlbacher table.  The Erl table has been taken down so many times to go to and fro to markets, but yes still hangin in there.  Now the Erl table can continue to do just that, and the new CSM Table can stay situated just where it is waiting for MrB to crank out sock pairs on Brigadier (88).  This table supplies so much more room and organization for MrB to complete is cranking tasks! It also looks impressive in the cave too. It does not take up that much more room either so fits it the old original spot.  We just passed our market anniversary and working on year #6 now, so improvements are also welcomed!  MrB is in his studio today, cranking out Left-Overs and Deranged pairs adding to our stock for the coming weeks.  It's that busy time of year and before you know it, will have come and gone :-)

1,2,3,4,5, they have saved the day many a time at markets!

You may find this a peculiar post, haha!  These 5 Turtlenecks have saved many a day at the markets we attend over the years.  Our market is very cold in the winter time! I know they are not in style and do not make a fashion statement, but they are my saving grace being a vendor in a very old buidling, vendoring in the upper courtyard that is mainly brick and cobble.  I am posting this today, as I thought I lost them, but I went on a determined search and found them!  I found them yahoo!  They had to be moved to accommodate another being living in the house and I was racking my brain, wondering where I put them....I located them today.  I am a very organized person so this was upsetting to me that I could not find them or thinking I may have even thrown them out by accident :-(   The thing is that they are very old and that I have kept them for many many years.  You can always wear a turtleneck to keep your neck warm and then put an infinity scarf over-top and no one sees it or knows you are wearing them.  I own many scarves indeed, I like to have them to semi-match my sock pairs.  Now is saying that, I just spent time putting together my next five market attendance time outfits so that I know I am warm for the festive season and dug out my most festive sock pairs too!  I am trying to avoid using a certain word just now and I do not want to say it too much until after Remembrance Day!  I know I am quirky gal at times!  OK so back to topic....I wonder how many of you still have a turtleneck hidden in the back of your closet?

Attendances for Brewery Market in the month of November :-)

November 18th and November 25th!

7am to 1pm

....get your Christmas shopping underway and buy some of our socks pairs. They are Hugs for your feet!

on November 11, 2017

You may remember in a past post I was talking about naming our first comfort doll made.  I suggested Bugsy but now I have decided to rename him Bugsley!

Here is Bugsley to tell you that our market we attend will be open Nov 11, 2017.  However Socks Made On 88 has chosen not to attend the market that day, and attend a Remembrance Day Service to honour our freedom and those who fought for us.

Lest We Forget!

Tuesday 3 October 2017

I am hearing through the media grapevine...

that it is now official and that the market we vendor at has changed it's name from The Historic Farmers' Market to Halifax Brewery Farmers' Market Cooperative! Probably, Brewery Market for short :-)  So posting that here so that you all get used to the new name and change.  Others changes happening too at the market, same location.  Just remember the market is at 1496 Lower Water St, Halifax NS.
We will see you there again, October 14, 2017 :-)

Comfort Dolls....I call ours, Little Hugs!

Showing off our newest comfort doll ~ Little Hug amongst Adult Hats and Baby Hats! Fall is here, expanding our collection of all Hats!  Our Hats are Hugs for your head!

MrB has started to make comfort dolls also.  This is a great way to use up our left-overs especially after making deranged Hats. There are always pieces left-over that we do not like to throw away.  And MsB always has a length of yarn left over from doing a kitchener and saves them in a bag that can be used for stuffing!  This is the first little doll made and he will be kept with Blake as a keepsake.  I was thinking since we have MrB, MsB, and Brigadier our Mascot that this little Hug should have a "B" name too.  The first one that has come to my mind is Bug rhymes with Hug, so perhaps Bugsy!  Wonder if that will stick, or if MrB will approve? Maybe he will have a better idea, and if so, I will let you know :-)

Yesterday we had a market, and it was the first day into our 6th year!  How time has gone by so fast!  Fall is here, and it is onto to a busier selling season.  Yesterday, there was already much talk of , Oh I have to put those socks on my gift list!  Three months will pass by very quickly, and I always look forward to this time at the Historic (Brewery) Market.  Whatever the market is called, as it may be in the works of changing it's name, but not sure to what (?) exactly yet, it remains located at:
1496 Lower Water Street,
Halifax, Nova Scotia

Whether you are a local or a tourist, pop on down and give us a visit at these dates, as we would love to meet you and chat with you!  There is always room for a pair of socks, or a hat in your market bag, or suitcase :-)

The following dates you will find us at 1496 Lower Water St. 7am to 1pm, look for the Socks Made On 88 sign beside Boates Farm and close to the Brewery Tours location.

Taken at Canada Day 150 by a customer!

We had a good day selling socks July 1, 2017.  The nice thing about going to the market in July to October you meet lots of nice people touring the Maritimes on vacation being a typical tourist!  That is one of my favourite parts of being at the market, talking to people who purchase our socks, and wondering where the socks are going? Many want to stop and take our picture with the CSM!  This particular picture was taken by a lovely lady who was from  South Africa and who bought a pair of socks.  I will give photo credit to Katya.  Also this day we met customers from Arizona, yes she bought a pair of Tabbies to wear back home!  Customers from Virgina, Vancouver, and other places too.  We will be at the market this Saturday, July 15th and wondering where our customers will be from this week? Oh and in case anyone is wondering of our August schedule we will be attending the market, August 5th and August 19th.  Come on down to Lower Water Street, and drop in to see us near the Alexander Keith's Brewery tours.  :-)

Socks Made On 88 and my Blog was born on this date!

Happy Birthday to Socks Made On 88 and to my blog!  It surely does not seem that long ago.  But the venture technically started, on January 3, 2012.  Since then, we've been just skating along, doing our thing, creating, marketing and having fun! This little venture has certainly kept us both very much occupied with many tasks that we enjoy.  Our marketing outings, have also been a hightlight in this venture, as we have become to know some awesome fellow vendors and we have many loyal,  supportive, interesting customers. We look forward in serving our customers old and new as we entry this year of 2017!  Our next market stint will be January 7, 2017.  Remember, the new hours also to commence that day and the market will be opening at 8 am instead of 7 am, for Winter Hours.  See you Saturday.  Happy New Year!
