Summer slouch

Not too much activity these days at Socks Made On 88, we are enjoying the summer slouch.  MrB is working away though time to time on the continuing knitting up socks on the Van Gogh series of colourways.  I think he may have whipped up oh I mean cranked out a pair of socks today/this evening in between other jobs and watching the Olympic Opening Ceremonies.  The Van Gogh he chose today was the The Bedroom in Arles.  I am really amazed with the creations from this yarn.  I like them, I like them, I like them!

Amidst our summer slouch, we want to do some camping soon.  With that being said, when we head out we are also taking along some knitting tools, aids and patterns as we are going to stop in on a fellow CSMer and MrB is going to give him some hands-on instruction.  They are owners of an Erl also and we are going to do our good deed to pass along some knowledge to get him going  to the point of some smooth sailing :-)  We look forward in visiting their farm operation, and meeting the whole family.  It will be a day of learning and a day of friendship!

I will update you on the #3 Van Gogh socks and our hands-on visit there after!

#88 was gifted!

Remember awhile back I told you that MrB made #88 pair of socks and we were going to give them to a special person as a gift.  Well we gifted them to her this week, and she was very excited to receive them and honoured to have been the person to now be owner of the #88th pair of socks made from Socks Made On 88 on Brigadier 88 and she was born in the year 1988.   Above is the 88th pair of socks made from ~Socks Made On 88!

I will soon be ready to start hand-painting!

I got the two items I saw on kijiji!  Hurray!  I got a crock pot and a microwave for a very good price.  Then I went to VV and got a microwave stand, for $1.99 and could not believe it!  Along with other items too, like 3 trays, glass cupboard protector, measuring cups, tongs, and small wash tub, all for like 10 bucks!  We had to make a run to the grocery store too while we were out so I picked up some food colouring, some vinegar and some kool aid packets too!  So now when I get the urge to start I will be all ready!  As much as I would like to start now or yesterday I am going to hold off a bit as it is still time to entertain, visit, camp, and take some day trips.  The dyeing can wait till I am finished enjoying the flexibility of what this gorgeous weather of our summer is offering up to us!  Maybe some rainy day I will dig out all my supplies and plunge right into it but not right now.  It was a lot of fun though, finding all the stuff I wanted to get :-) I am a happy camper soon to be dyer or painter! I will keep you attuned of when my next chapter in Socks Made on 88 will begin...

I am DYEING to gather items

I am "dyeing" to start the process of gathering some items that I want to have in a separate area, away from the kitchen, close to the washtub in the basement.  I am going to look a slightly or gently used crockpot/slow cooker and a microwave this morning that I found on the kijiji listings.  How coincidental it is for one person to have both items listed, I think they were meant for me to find!

These will be added to my collection of items.  I have an old cardtable, a plastic table cloth, the sink, and a cement painted floor in a pretty decent size area.  I need some containers and I think I may just use some margarine containers to begin with, and I want to purchase some vinegar as well.

I have some cheaper yarn I can experiment on and I have a white tea towel I just want to play around with and be very creative with making it very orange, to match our kitchen instead of using it white.  If it does not turn out that is no biggie at all!  No big waste!

I have not purchased any dye yet but I do have some old food colouring sitting in the cupboard.  I may look at some koolaid today too while we are out.

I am trying not to just jump into this full force as we have some others on the go in the next few weeks, like entertaining, visiting and camping.  I want to gather some things gradually and then have stuff all available and then when I finally get the urge to hand-paint something I will all what I need and want!  But today does start the ball of wax moving!  And I am quite excited of the potential this may hold for me. I have lots of little ideas running around in my head.

New adventure today

We are soon off to a new adventure!  We do not know if we are feeling the vibes or not this morning.  I will come back later and finish this post and see how I feel in the afternoon after the demo and morning is all done!  Till then...

msb from Socks Made On 88

Here is it late afternoon and I have returned to tell you that we had a GREAT day!
We met several nice people, shared the room with a dear dear lady (82) and she was simply amazed with the machine.  It was exciting just to see her face light up as MrB knitted and cranked out socks.  I think we made her day too, as she gave us both a great big hugs at the end of our time there.  Sales were super!  Our lady friend was very taken with MrB his attire too which I will post a picture to share.  She was impressed too not only with his knitting talents but with their conversations of making jam, canning and baking biscuits too!  So what did I learn from today.....you can never predict what the day will be like, vibes don't tell the real story, but what does tell a story is the friendship you make and small gesture of kindness and sharing knowledge to a person you have never met before.  I know for a fact we made this lady's day, week or maybe her year!  We have been invited back for a December demo and we invited our new friend to hopefully attend and share the room again with us.  She was brought in to teach children how to knit but no children signed up or showed up.  Her sense of humour and interest of our machine fascinated her to no end and she even got some knitting of her own done while working on a dish cloth, special request order.  Our new adventure today was very good and very heart warming indeed!

MrB's special debut of his cranking outfit, cargo kilt which looks mighty fine!

Our display for the day, selling our SOCKS!

More of the display showing our sock and hat set and soap sacks too!

More display... the special featured socks in front row! They always make additional conversation!

He's back....

Well here I am ....took a little break! And, MrB is back!  A special package came in the mail yesterday for MrB.  I am not just ready to share what it was yet, but Saturday after the outing I will no doubt have a picture to share and explain it further.   He knit a pair of socks for himself last night, getting back into the swing of things.  I kitchenered them this afternoon.  I should really be downstairs washing them, but here I sit sipping on some wine we just bottled today.  Our contact for us being an "attraction " on Saturday called this evening to confirm that everything is all set to arrive early and get the show on the road. We will have to get in gear and get stuff all together as it has been awhile since we did a market and our routine has certainly lapsed.  This is not a market per say but it will be very similar as we need to take all the same things. The biggest decision I will have is whether or not  to wear a pair of socks,to show them off or not wear socks as it is suppose to be quite hot out!  I think I should wear socks and then I will have to come up with a summer outfit that goes with whatever socks I choose to wear.  OK I must think about that more!  I have a few days to come up with something appropriate. Toodle-loo until my next check in.

GONE FISHING then an Attraction!

If there was a sign to place outside our door for Socks Made On 88 today, it would have read ,"GONE FISHIN' "

MrB has taken a fishing trip to Newfoundland so there will be no production of any socks at all until he gets back.  He is taking a much needed break and a male-bonding trip to visit his son.  I would imagine too that he is also soaking up many of the sights and will have stories to tell me when he gets back home.

MrB didn't leave me any work of sock stuff to do while he is gone, so it is play time for msb this week!  What's good for the Gander is good for the Goose too!  I switched that around a little bit.  Did anyone notice?

A little break doesn't hurt anyone especially when he gets back we will be gearing up for a little something new.  We, Socks Made On 88 will be an "Attraction" next weekend at a community affair out of town.  Brigadier 88 will get his bath and get all spicked and spanned to show off on Saturday, July 21st.  MrB will be doing a demo for interested parties over-seeing him and I will be selling our wears.  Our Socks that are Hugs for your Feet!   We will have to get into market mentality once again.  We are hoping this is a fun event as they have already told us that if we want to come again a second time the option will be open.

So here's to a good Fishing trip for MrB, and here's to a great attraction day coming up!  Here's to me, msb, as of now I am signing off Socks Made On 88 for a couple of days!  I will enjoy the dog-days of summer.  What a glorious day it was here today, and the forecast is sunny for the whole week.  Play time here I come!
On a adventure today with my son, tomorrow movies, Wednesday and Thursday visiting, and Friday through into the weekend I hope to catch up on some felt appliqueing, reading, and maybe even do some of my pending embroidery project that has been patiently been waiting for a turn of my attention.  Socks Made On 88 has definitely won out on my attention the last number of months.  But that is OK as I love it!

Cheers, a good week to all, see you again here real soon,

One Two Three Four Hand-Painted Yarns

MY 4 HAND-PAINTED GOOD KARMA's MADE INTO 4 PAIRS OF SOCKS FOR ME BY MrB of SOCKS MADE ON 88

The last of 4th Hand-painted!

BEFORE

AFTER~  I call this one Seas and Sand!

My #3 of Hand-painted Good Karma Yarn

Here thery are #3, which I call Sailors Delight!  One is a little bit more blue than the other but for me that does not matter!  In fact I think all of the 4 pairs would be good to go to mix and match and knowing me I will certainly give that try to see what kind of reaction I get!  I will be the rebel sock wearer!

At first, I was not sure if I liked this colourway, but I must admit it is growing on me in leaps and bounds.  I am not a pinky person but I do wear some pink sometimes.  What I do like about these it has coral, orange and mauve in them too so I do really like all those colours.  When you look at all the pairs I did I did make they varying in colours so they should all fit into my wardrobe very nicely, as I do wear an assortment of colours!

Rainy Day what better to do than....

Take a day to work on and in the business of Socks Made On 88!
I have spent most of the day revamping our sock tags, some rewording, printing, and organizing my thoughts of what else needs to be done while I am the mood of doing it and getting it done!  Ok all tasks at hand completed.  Got the things up to par to where I wanted them.

MrB is crankin' away on my second pair of Good Karma socks!  Socks for me again, I just love it and love them too.  I must admit the colours I am ending up with, are simply spectacular, who would have thought the rebel creator would be so happy with the final outcomes.  2 for 2 so far and then two more to go but not in the just immediate future.  I have to patient!

Pretty photo sunshine and all!

This happened by accident today as my clothesline was too full to have our personal socks drying on it also....so I came up with an alternative, and it just looked too cool that I had to share it and post it here.   See, we where our socks all the time even in the summer time.  We love our Socks!  I think you would love them too if you had some!  So why not check out Socks Made On 88 if you live in our local area.  They will be sold at markets come fall.  And if you really like them you can check out our website also now.  A pretty picture also brought the opportunity to put in plug for our little venture. Thanks :-)

Hand- painted Yarn I did at Good Karma Farm

Here are some pictures of the yarn I hand painted at the Good Karma Farm Crank-in.
I did 4 skeins.  I will call these the before pictures and the after pictures will be the socks completed.  I have ideas of naming my created colours and the first ones, MrB cranked out last night.  I will have to kitchener them today in which I think I will get my stuff and go out to the deck this morning and do that as the sun is shining.  So here are the 4 names I have pondered upon:
1.  Sightseeing
2.  Suncatching
3.  Sailors Delight
4.  Seas and Sand

I have picked these names by just looking at the yarn wound up in ball.  I think the names will suffice also once knitted.  It is really hard to tell what the socks and pattern of the hand painted yarn will actually look like. Here is a preview of all 4 skeins wound into balls ready for cranking/knitting!
